I heard that there were snowy owls at the coast and the pictures I saw of them caught my wonder. They looked like beautiful creatures. The weather promised to be fair at the coast, so, even though I was sick, we drove the 2 hours to see them. During the walk I was able to count nine different birds. They seemed in bewilderment about all the people with their cameras large and small. I was in amazement upon seeing them. They sat half asleep while every so often rotating their heads in a complete view of their surroundings. Every so often one would yawn, open their eyes, take a look, and decide that sleep was more important.
The owls I saw all were either immature or female. If I understand correctly, the more mature birds can turn entirely white.
Sick or not, it was a beautiful sight to behold these gorgeous birds. Hope you enjoy the pictures.

Hey There. I found your blog using msn. This is a really well written article. I will make sure to bookmark it and return to read more of Snowy Owls | View from the Lookout . Thanks for the post. I’ll certainly return.
Great photographs of a stunningly beautiful bird… nice post!
Molto belle le foto dei gufi, colori luminosissimi.
Wow, stunning! Glad you overcame the sickness to get these pics, they are well worth it. I go to work very early and am often treated to the sight of barn owls. Always a real pleasure 🙂
Amazing pictures. I love how owls have an inadvertent smug, devil-may-care look about them. “I’m not talking to you.” —> awesome caption.
Great yellow eyes. Fantastic photos.
great object…. fix contrast… ehm….. excelent…
Wow! Really nice. I didn’t know we had them here in Washington and I have never seen them before. Where on the coast did you see them. Do you think there still there? I would really like to see one in real life.
These were at Ocean Shores. There are more just across the Canadian border in Boundary Bay.
Thanks a lot. I appreciate it. I’m going to try and see them before there gone.
What a beautiful creature!!!
Beautiful images! The second and the last one are my favorites 🙂
I long to see an owl. I’ve really kept my eyes peeled for the Snowy Owls since there has been an increase in sightings (NAmerica) this winter and they are usually active during the day. Thanks for the wonderful pics!
Gorgeous photos! That glare they have reminds me of when my cat’s hungry!
Wow awesome photo’s ! I have only seen an owl in the wild once, the boyfriend was driving me home after night out and I saw a barn owl swoop down into a field to catch some prey. I got very excited and wouldn’t shut up about owls the whole way home :p
Lucky you! Beautiful photos. Check out my painting of a mature male snowy. Watercolour on yupo. It sold the week after I framed it :).
Very nice work. I can see why it sold.
Loved your post and photos! Too bad you didn’t feel 100%, but very glad you went regardless.
Absolutely stunning set of photographs
Yes I like snowy owls.
They look happy!
Have you ever gone up to the Skagit River to watch the bald eagles? It’s something I always wanted to do (we lived in Washington for 25 years), but never got around to doing.
Yes, we go up there every few years. Thankfully we have some bald eagles and osprey nests very close to our home to observe so I do not have to drive that often to see them.
Cool!
beautiful shots. I am “in search of” snowys until they leave again 😦
Very good pictures.
Wonderful shots – they really are beautiful! Congrats on being freshly pressed 🙂
What beautiful creatures! Did you take the photos yourself? They are very good quality and really let you acknowledge those wonderful birds. I have liked this blog as I am a nature lover and I have fallen in love with the beauty of those owls.

I love your snowy owl photos. I blogged about snowy owls here, http://suzannesmomsblog.com/2012/01/23/snowy-owls/, and then a poet sent me her poetry about a snowy owl she saw.
It’s a bunch of Hedwigs! Only…less white. Beautiful nonetheless.
Thanks for making the effort. Heard many were more south this year, wish I could get the time to get out there.
Beautiful creatures. Thanks for sharing. Connie

Stunningly beautiful creatures.
They are such Beautiful Creatures(:
it’s my understanding that there have been many sightings in places where they aren’t usually seen. Warmer climate? I don’t know, but, lucky you for getting the pictures. They’re beautiful creatures, and your photographs are just great!
Wow, what beautiful animals!! You are so lucky to have seen them!
Lovely, I took a picture of one some time ago, http://www.flickr.com/photos/rodos2009/4946460288/

Beautiful photos! I am a WordPress photographer too, I love to photograph animals as well. I mainly only get my cats, and the birds outside. I hope I see some owls soon!
Beautiful Birds! Wonderful!
Great photos! Thanks for sharing.
I actually don’t like big birds that much, but I do like owls.
wow!!!, i have been chasing them all winter, thanks MJ
I didn’t know they had yellow eyes. They are beautiful.
They are so cute!! I keep thinking I might need a better lens.
May I just say I loved the angles and contrast?
Good job!
Beautiful photos of beautiful birds!
Superb. How come they were there ‘in numbers’ as it were?
There are larger numbers of them up near the Canadian border. From my understanding, these immature ones came a little further south. It appears that snowy owls this year have come more south this year compared to other years. I expect they will head north to their breeding grounds soon.
Thanks for info. They are quite remarkable. Hope you are feeling better?
beautiful.
It’s so pretty, and so Harry Pottery.
There is something almost creepy about the yellow eyes against the stark white plumage — beautiful and creepy…
🙂
Absolutely gorgeous!
Gorgeous owls and detailed photos!
